The 18 signals
Tab switching, window blur, right-click, copy/paste, DevTools open, print attempts, screenshot combos, screen sharing, multi-monitor extension, network drop, clipboard access, virtual camera, multi-face in frame, no face in frame, face mismatch vs enrollment, unusual head pose, forced fullscreen exit, and mouse leaving the viewport.
Point-based severity
Not every event should end an exam. A first tab-switch is a warning; a DevTools open is instant disqualification. Each institute admin tunes the point thresholds — the system auto-submits the attempt only when the configured limit is crossed.
Passive face checks
Every ninety seconds ProctorGuard silently snapshots the webcam and compares it to the student's enrolled face embedding. Snapshots are stored in a private bucket for teacher review — never shared publicly.
